Rain and water and your Garden - too much Rain, too little Rain.

We are lucky here in Thunder Bay, surrounded by a large freshwater Lake, never having to worry about having freshwater to drink, and to water our plants with, California is not so lucky, this state continues to suffer from a massive drought. In fact, they have now mandated that any new build can have no more than 25%  of landscape in grass.  Cick on this link for more information: http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/51534286?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u1519&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery1

This summer has been a mixed bag or torrential rains, super high humidity, heat and cold, with the weather jumping all over the place. I visited Oakland, California and the Napa Valley a few years ago, and of course, I wanted to live there because of the awesome climate, and the beautiful flowering Gardens.  It would be just terrible if you couldn't plant your flowers because there isn't enough water to sustain them. Too much rain is no good. Recently in Thunder Bay the rain has been coming down like a monsoon does in the Tropics, heavy rains, with a lot of force, causing flash flooding and swelling rivers. while we mumble about having to cut the grass yet again, grass somewhere else is turning brown.

Our overflowing Rain barrels.

This is exactly how it rains during Rainy season in the Tropics - just a massive opening of the skies.

Our Gardens have been loving all the rain!

My sadly neglected Daylilies are blooming profusely..!

Bees love Goldenrod, so we've been letting these colourful blooms invade our gardens.
