Can technology help us as we Age?

Baby boomers....we don't want to think of ourselves as old. Yet, some of us went to school in a room similar to the abandoned school above, note the lack of technology.  No computers, no tablets, no cell phones. If you wanted to do research, you had to go to the school Library. There was no Internet.

Let's fast forward to 2018, where one does not have to go anywhere, if you don't want to. Shopping can be done online, banking, paying bills, checking your medical tests, your investments can be checked, and so on. That is, if you have your sight, and you can see. If you have memory loss, how will you be able to remember all those passwords for the various sites? Or the 18-step security system to login securely to your site? Where will things be in a few years? Will we be using retina scans or fingerprint technology?

Let's say you can't see and you physically have to go to the bank. There is a seniors line in most banks, but no dedicated staff member is there to man this line. so the Senior is faced with waits of 15     minutes to 45 minutes. To top off the situation, seniors can be heard giving their pin #s to the Bank's clerk. Total lack of privacy.

Enter Alexa. She can help you make shopping list, set reminders, store phone numbers, play music and so much more. Alexa can be set to sync to your kid's phone, so that they can keep up with the goings-on in your life ( when you can't).

If you are an aging Baby Boomer, best to start learning technology now, and the best way to learn is to start using it now. We all want to remain independent as long as possible. I marvel at some clients who inform me that they do not own a computer.

Alexa, set a reminder.  Remind me to turn off the stove in 20 minutes.

Technology, do you love it or hate it?
Does it save you time, or does it cause you stress? What other tech resources have you found helpful in your day-to-day?
