Focus on what you have succeeded at this year, not on what has gone wrong, the Year 2020.

It's almost the start of a New Year, and as usual, we reflect on the past year, asking perhaps what went wrong, and what went better than expected. Many of you used the time you were under lockdown to renovate your Home and Garden, to organize your rooms, and maybe to build a Home Office and/or a Home Gym. Take a moment to write down what went better than expected for you this past year.

Some of you decided to focus on Growing your Garden, and here in Thunder Bay we were lucky to have  a warm spring and an early, hot start to Summer. This gave us a great advantage in lengthening our short growing season. We started by trying to grow our own Sweet Peas from seed. I started by soaking the seeds in water, and then germinating them in wet paper towels. Once the little shoots appeared, then I planted them into packs of potting soil.

We planted the Burpee's seeds, and did not have great expectations that the plants would actually grow into healthy plants, which would bear masses of beautiful Sweet Pea blooms ( Those beautiful pictures on the seed packages seem to give you false hope!) It was too cold to put the seedlings into a small, unheated greenhouse, so they stayed indoors, and got leggy and tall, and looked very unhealthy.

Once these spindly plants were planted outside in our garden, they shot up like crazy! Surprise!! And we were rewarded with lots of beautiful, sweet smelling blooms all summer long. Our Hummingbirds loved all the blooms, and would perch on the nearby fence, guarding their flowers!
